Scaling + Root Planing

Treating Gum Disease

If plaque and calculus build up below the gumline, periodontal pockets can form as a result of the body’s inflammatory response. This is often associated with bleeding as well as bad breath. Additionally, untreated gum disease can lead to bone loss and tooth loss.

If you are diagnosed with periodontal disease in our office, the first treatment recommended is generally scaling and root planing. In these appointments, our hygienists will numb you and remove the tartar below the gumline. We will reevaluate your gum health in 6 weeks to check for improvement and stability in the gum tissues.
